Abandoned....

Photographs of abandoned architectural structures are always a source of fascination for me. From what I can tell, it's a passion. Hours pass by quickly when I view photographs of this nature and I'm always left wanting more. I'd love to visit these sites myself to see what little details I might uncover of the former life of these abandoned places that once held so much energy and activity.

My latest find is this amazing site by a local Bay Area photographer. I originally found his work when looking up info about the Key System Building in beautiful, but somewhat neglected, downtown Oakland. The outside of the building is amazing, the history of the Key System very interesting, the demise of it unfortunate. Because the building sits vacant and I often walk by it pondering how it could be reused, it's on my to-do list to get in to see it myself, though through legitimate means.

I really do admire Jonathan Haeber's work and hope he (safely) continues documenting our wonderful past, in whatever form of decay. Also check out the Neverland Ranch story and photos - magical and eerie.
